Vitamin D food sources are becoming more important as there is more and more information coming out about the importance of Vitamin D. It is important to recognize that the best source of it is from proper exposure of our skin to sunlight because sunlight brings so many other benefits and avoids the problems of the traditional animal-based food sources. However, we need enough Vitamin D and have to get it from some where. (There are also inexpensive supplemental forms.)
Here are some of the commonly-recognized food sources of Vitamin D:
I have seen the suggestion that certain plant products also contain vitamin D but want to find more information on this. I will post any information I find. The foods mentioned are sunflower greens, wheatgrass juice, chickweed. Another source said that: "Most vegetables are low in Vitamin D, but green leafy vegetables are also a good source." Also dried mushrooms. Again, I am looking for better documentation of this.
The video posted on my benefits of Vitamin D page mentions that greens are a good source of Vitamin D. I am trying to get the book by Dr. Dowd to see what he says about that.
